A tense encounter with elephant bull Samal

Meet Samal, one of the bulls from the Babala elephant population we're studying. As Samal emerged from a thicket beside a corrugated road, he made it clear to Daud Abdi, our Field Education Officer at Babala, that he wasn't comfortable with the approaching vehicle. Head held high and ears spread wide, he was displaying classic warning signals elephants use to appear larger and more intimidating. D
