African Clean Energy (ACE) was founded in Lesotho in 2011 by Ruben and Stephen Walker and manufactures the ACE One, a hybrid cookstove pairing efficient biomass gasification with a solar panel and battery for lighting and phone charging. Households pay for stoves and fuel through an in-house pay-as-you-go mobile platform, with usage tracked for carbon financing. As of April 2025, ACE had distributed around 2,600 new cookstoves in Lesotho, positively impacting more than 13,000 lives.
