Action for Ocean, a Dar es Salaam nonprofit, helps coastal communities in Tanzania run temporary octopus closures and co-manage their fisheries. Its 2025 impact report counts 1,541 hectares of reef under community closures in Kilwa, a 75 percent rise in octopus catch, and average octopus size up from 500 g to 975 g. Harvests from closed reefs earned US$106,711, up 45 percent on pre-closure earnings. The figures are AFO's own and are not independently verified.
