Founded in 2004, Alive & Kicking set out to be the world's only not-for-profit ball manufacturer, hand-stitching leather balls in factories in Kenya, Zambia and Ghana. The organisation has produced more than 800,000 balls to date, donating over a fifth of them to schools and community groups, while employing more than 150 people in full-time, fairly paid manufacturing jobs -- 90% of whom had never held formal employment before. Beyond manufacturing, Alive & Kicking has trained more than 500 community coaches since 2012 to deliver health and HIV-awareness sessions alongside ball donations, using sport as the entry point for life-saving information.
