Solar Suitcases Let Nampula's Midwives Work After Dark

Alongside Hope, the Anglican Church of Canada's development agency, has funded 79 solar suitcases in off-grid maternal clinics across Nampula Province, Mozambique, since 2016, working with Mozambican partner EHALE and supplier We Care Solar. The 2025 Coming Alongside Hope with Light campaign raised over 170,000 dollars for suitcases in Mozambique and Madagascar, funding 35 more units for Mozambique; installation was delayed by administrative issues and flooding in Nampula and Zambezia, and 25 more are planned for 2026. Each unit gives a clinic LED lighting, a fetal Doppler and phone charging, so women can deliver safely at night.
