Amazone: A Safe Space for Girls and Young Women in Vorarlberg

Based in Bregenz, Verein Amazone combines a drop-in girls' center, free confidential counseling and a gender-expertise unit to support girls, young women, and inter, non-binary, trans and agender youth across the state of Vorarlberg. Counselors most often see young people struggling with psychological pressure, anxiety, depressive moods, eating disorders and self-harm. Demand has risen sharply: the number of girls coming to counseling grew 30 percent in 2023 compared with 2022, with demand climbing even further in the first half of 2024. Amazone also runs a Bludenz outpost jointly with women's information center femail to reach girls and women outside Bregenz.
