American Prairie: Rebuilding the Northern Great Plains

American Prairie buys and leases land in northeastern Montana to reconnect a functioning mixed-grass prairie ecosystem, working toward a long-term vision of 3.2 million contiguous acres anchored by the Charles M. Russell National Wildlife Refuge. Since 2005 the organization has reintroduced wild bison as a keystone grazer and shares genetically diverse animals with Native Nations to help restore tribal herds and cultural practices. The reserve base has grown to over half a million deeded and leased acres of intact prairie habitat.
