Founded in 2017, Black Girls Dive Foundation runs its STREAMS program, introducing underrepresented girls to science, technology, robotics, engineering, arts and math through hands-on scuba diving and marine conservation projects. Participants earn open-water dive certifications, complete a self-directed social-impact capstone project, and have traveled on international conservation expeditions to sites including Egypt and the Bahamas. By 2021 the program had reached over 300 youth across Maryland, New Jersey, Georgia and Delaware, issued more than 60 dive certifications, and maintained a retention rate above 90%.
