blueEnergy has worked since 2004 with rural, off-grid communities on Nicaragua's Caribbean (Atlantic) coast — home to a population that is majority without grid electricity — installing micro solar grids, solar-powered water pumps and lanterns, biosand water filters, ecological latrines, and food-producing home gardens. More than 85% of its Nicaragua staff are locally based, and the model has since been extended to communities in Ethiopia and Burkina Faso. The organization frames its work at the intersection of renewable energy, water/sanitation/hygiene, and food security as climate adaptation for isolated coastal communities.
