Bush Heritage Australia purchased the 1,307-hectare Scottsdale Reserve near Bredbo, New South Wales in 2006 to protect and restore Natural Temperate Grassland and Box-Gum Grassy Woodland, two of the country's most critically endangered ecological communities. The team is focused on restoring roughly 600 hectares of former cropping and grazing paddocks on the valley floor, removing nutrient-loaded topsoil and re-establishing keystone native grasses like kangaroo grass to crowd out invasive African lovegrass. The reserve now shelters threatened species including the Hooded Robin, Diamond Firetail and Button Wrinklewort, with volunteers logging close to 1,000 working days on-site each year.
