Caiman House is a nonprofit lodge and research station owned and operated by the Indigenous Yupukari community on the banks of the Rupununi River. Since 2005, its research crew has caught, measured, and tagged black caiman as part of one of just two long-term black caiman nesting studies in the world, alongside monitoring the yellow-spotted river turtle. Guests who stay at the lodge join nighttime capture surveys and help fund the village's internet-enabled public library, with 100 percent of surplus revenue reinvested in wildlife research, education, and cultural preservation in Yupukari.
