Caminos de Acción: Bringing Clean Water to Tehuiste, El Salvador

Caminos de Acción has worked since 2012 in Tehuiste, El Salvador, where surveys found roughly 82% of residents suffered parasites from fecal-oral water contamination. The organization has installed more than 40 pilas (household water storage and washing stations), reaching 60 families through a $10-per-family cost-sharing model that keeps costs affordable while building local ownership. When bacteria was later detected in the community well, Caminos de Acción helped the community secure local government funding for an industrial water filtration and pumping station. The water program runs alongside WASH education, organic-farming training, and scholarships for the same rural community.
