Training Guard Dogs to Keep Botswana's Cheetahs Wild

Cheetah Conservation Botswana has worked since 2003 to help rural farmers coexist with the country's cheetahs, which make up roughly a quarter of the world's remaining wild cheetah population. Its Livestock Guarding Dog programme has placed local Tswana-breed dogs with farmers since 2013, and a published study found the dogs cut livestock losses by at least 85 percent. CCB backs this with a demonstration farm in Ghanzi showing predator-friendly herding practices, camera-trap and collar research on farmland cheetahs, and four-day educational bush camps that put students face to face with Kalahari conservation science.
