Clean Air Asia: A Continent-Wide Network Fighting Asia's Smog City by City

Clean Air Asia was set up in 2001 by the Asian Development Bank, World Bank and USAID and later became an independent nonprofit network, working with national governments and city halls to design clean air action plans covering transport, industry and household energy sources. It now brings together more than 250 partner organizations across 31 countries, anchored by dedicated country networks in places including India, Indonesia, Nepal, Pakistan, the Philippines, Sri Lanka and Vietnam. From its Manila headquarters, with additional offices in Beijing and New Delhi, the network helps cities set air quality standards, phase out dirty fuels and track the vehicle and industrial emissions behind much of Asia's smog, in a region where most of its roughly 1,000 significant cities still lack basic air pollution monitoring or policy responses.
