Cleanup Bahrain began in January 2016 as two young volunteers picking up trash on a single beach and has grown into a registered non-profit society with over 500 regular participants. Working with Bahrain's Northern Governorate and other government bodies, the group runs recurring beach cleanups, school workshops and a mobile 'Green Van' recycling station for community events. By its seventh annual World Cleanup Day event in September 2025, the group had removed more than 58,000 kg of waste from Bahrain's coastline since 2018, with 500+ volunteers collecting 1,400 kg across the Janabiya and Malkiya beach cleanups that day alone.
