Climeworks builds direct air capture (DAC) plants that filter carbon dioxide from ambient air, which its partner Carbfix then mineralizes into rock deep underground for permanent storage. Its Mammoth facility in Hellisheiði, Iceland—switched on in May 2024—is the world's largest DAC plant, joining the earlier Orca plant. Mammoth is designed for a nominal capture capacity of 36,000 tons of CO2 per year when fully built out.
