Clontarf Foundation: Using Football to Keep Aboriginal Boys in School

Founded in 2000 by former AFL coach Gerard Neesham, the Clontarf Foundation runs football academies inside partner schools to improve attendance, discipline, life skills and employment prospects for young Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander men. It now operates 161 academies across 172 schools in Western Australia, the Northern Territory, Victoria, New South Wales, Queensland and South Australia, supporting more than 12,500 students. Since 2000, over 8,876 Clontarf students have completed Year 12, and more than 70 percent of graduates move into employment or further study.
