From Trash to Treasure in Paynesville

Champions for Nature Conservation Liberia, established in 2023, works across Monrovia and Paynesville on biodiversity education, waste management and community advocacy. In April 2026 the group launched 'From Trash to Treasure,' a household waste-segregation and cash-for-plastic scheme covering eight communities near critical wetlands, with UNDP, iCampus, the Paynesville City Corporation and Liberia's EPA as partners. Residents are paid roughly 0.35 USD per kilogram of plastic collected, tackling a city where plastic makes up 14% of daily waste and 84% of waste overall goes unmanaged.
