Zambian Scouts Guarding the South Luangwa Valley

Conservation South Luangwa (CSL), registered in Zambia since 2003, works alongside the Department of National Parks and Wildlife to protect South Luangwa National Park and its surrounding Game Management Areas, an area of 1.4 million hectares home to over 100,000 people living alongside the wildlife. CSL employs 112 Community Scouts who conduct foot patrols, run Zambia's first conservation K9 detection unit, and provide 24/7 veterinary care for snared and injured animals, alongside human-wildlife conflict mitigation and livelihood support for neighboring communities. Since its founding, CSL's teams have pulled more than 10,000 wire snares from the bush and treated over 250 de-snared animals.
