Pat Cummins launched Cricket for Climate at his own Sydney club, Penrith, in 2021 to get practical solar and battery projects onto community cricket grounds around Australia. The charity has since installed rooftop solar and batteries worth more than $150,000 across five NSW clubs and delivered a 285kW solar project at Cricket Australia's National Cricket Centre in Brisbane, with clubs saving an estimated $2,000 to $10,000 a year on energy bills that gets reinvested in equipment and girls' participation programs. The organization aims to bring solar power to hundreds of grassroots clubs on the way to a net-zero cricket sector by 2035.
