Solar Now Powers 19 of 43 Church Buildings on Mindoro, Starting With a Mangyan Indigenous Home

In December 2025 the church in Calapan (then the Apostolic Vicariate, elevated to a diocese in 2026) launched a two-year Renewable Energy Transition Implementation Plan, with pilot systems at Good Shepherd Parish and an Indigenous Mangyan-Tadyawan community in Victoria. On 30 April 2026, seven parishes signed contracts for a combined 200 kWp of solar, fully funded through parish-led efforts over five months. Bishop Moises Cuevas reported in September 2026 that 19 of 43 parishes and facilities already use solar, nearly half of the three-year target reached within eight months. The work is tied to the Protect Verde Island Passage campaign and the Center for Energy, Ecology and Development (CEED).
