RMI's Islands Energy Program, working with the Clara Lionel Foundation and Dominica's Ministry of Education, rebuilt Morne Prosper and Paix Bouche Primary Schools after Hurricane Maria's 2017 devastation and equipped each with resilient solar-plus-storage microgrids. The systems keep classrooms running day to day and give both communities a powered hurricane shelter when storms knock out the grid. The project won the 2023 Caribbean Renewable Energy Forum award for Best Energy Resilience Project.
