Durrell Brings Saint Lucia's Rarest Reptiles Back From the Brink

Durrell Wildlife Conservation Trust has run conservation programs in Saint Lucia since 1986, focused on four target endemic species across five offshore islands: the Saint Lucia racer, Saint Lucia whiptail, white-breasted thrasher and Saint Lucia iguana. After Durrell and partners eradicated invasive rats from Praslin Island, the whiptail population rebounded sharply, while the Saint Lucia racer - found only on tiny Maria Major islet - remains one of the rarest snakes on Earth. Saint Lucia is also home to roughly 80% of the world's white-breasted thrashers, an endangered bird found nowhere else in such numbers.
