Founded in 1966, the Ethiopian Wildlife and Natural History Society (EWNHS) is Ethiopia's oldest indigenous conservation organization and the country's official BirdLife International partner. It runs the national Important Bird Areas programme, coordinates the multi-country Migratory Soaring Birds and Egyptian Vulture NewLIFE projects along the Rift Valley/Red Sea flyway, and helped build the free "Birds of Africa" identification app, which documents 859 Ethiopian bird species with photos and calls. Through its Plant Locally and Nurture Trees project and school environmental-education programme, EWNHS engages students and communities directly in habitat restoration and conservation awareness.
