FACE Africa: Clean Water, Sanitation and Hygiene Across Rural Liberia

Founded in 2008 by Liberian-American Saran Kaba Jones, FACE Africa builds and rehabilitates water points, latrines and rainwater harvesting systems in rural Liberian communities left with shattered infrastructure after civil war. The organization trains local WASH committees to keep systems running long after installation, requiring that women make up more than half of every committee and much of its own staff. Since 2009, FACE Africa says its community-based WASH programs have touched the lives of more than 500,000 people, paired with hygiene education aimed at preventable waterborne disease.
