FairClimateFund & ADES: Solar Cookers for Sudanese Refugees in Chad

Since 2019, FairClimateFund has worked with local partner ADES to distribute solar cookers to refugee families in the Iridimi and Touloum camps in eastern Chad, now hosting some of the 1.3 million-plus Sudanese who have fled conflict and Darfur violence. The cookers are assembled and maintained locally in six workshops fully run by women from the camps, generating income while cutting the hours women spend gathering firewood. As of the latest reporting, the programme has distributed over 6,000 cookers toward a 10,000-cooker goal, cut an estimated 115,334 tonnes of CO2, and saved participating women roughly 6 hours of cooking-related labour per week.
