Finafinau โ€” Samoan for "resilient" โ€” is American Samoa's only youth-led environmental nonprofit, running active high-school chapters that pair environmental science with cultural identity. In October 2024 the group mobilized roughly 150 youth volunteers for a single coastal clean-up at Pala Lagoon, hauling out more than 4,000 pieces of trash and planting 20 native trees to help stabilize the shoreline. Its programs range from a student-run plant nursery to school workshops and a public campaign opposing deep-sea mining in Pacific waters. Founded in 2017 by educator Sabrina Suluai-Mahuka, Finafinau is entirely volunteer-run, training the next generation of American Samoan environmental stewards from the ground up.
