Flone Initiative

Flone Initiative was registered in 2013 and works on sexual harassment and exclusion inside east Africa's minibus transport systems β the matatus, taxis and motorcycle taxis most women actually travel on. Its Usalama wa Umma programme, developed in 2015 after the public stripping of women at Kenyan bus stages and the #MyDressMyChoice protests, trains drivers and conductors in harassment prevention, customer service and professional development. The organisation also built the Report It, Stop It crowdmapping platform with Ushahidi in 2014, runs Women in Transport chapters in Nairobi, Nakuru and Machakos, and convenes the Women & Transport Africa Conference. It now works in Kenya, Uganda and Rwanda, including training women to drive electric motorcycle taxis in Kigali.
