Friends of the Environment Center: Cataloguing and Teaching Qatar's Wildlife

Established on 7 October 1992 under Qatar's Ministry of Sports and Youth, the Friends of the Environment Center (FEC) is Qatar's longest-running environmental NGO, running school programmes, beach cleanups, tree-planting field trips and its annual 'A Flower Each Spring' wildlife awareness event. FEC co-developed the Qatar e-Nature smartphone app cataloguing the country's flora, birds, insects, mammals and reptiles, which won 'Best Arab Government Smart Application' in 2015. Its Field Guide to the Birds of Qatar, released the same year, documented 323 bird species recorded in the country.
