Fundación Iguaraya works with Indigenous, Afro-descendant and rural communities in Dibulla, La Guajira, spanning the Sierra Nevada foothills to the Caribbean coast. With the Honnold Foundation it is partnering with APRODDI Pulpa, an association of 27 fruit-producing families, to install a solar system for the community fruit-processing plant plus 27 solar irrigation systems. The aim is to cut reliance on an unstable grid and fossil fuels, keep the cold chain running and reduce post-harvest losses. The project includes farmer training in system maintenance, a community maintenance fund run by the association, and a seedbed that trains local young people as solar technicians.
