Founded in 2015, the German Ocean Foundation (Deutsche Meeresstiftung) is an official UN Ocean Decade Implementing Partner that links marine science with the public through research expeditions, exhibitions and policy advocacy. Its flagship Meereswettbewerb, running since 2005, has sent student teams on more than 80 one-week research expeditions aboard the sailing research vessel Aldebaran, guided by professional ocean researchers. Foundation-supported projects reached a cumulative potential audience of over 62 million contacts during the first half of the UN Ocean Decade (2021-2030), and the foundation also tours Germany with the International Ocean Film Tour and school-based ocean literacy programs.
