Green Cameroon was founded in 2003 in Buea to tackle deforestation, water scarcity and poor waste management around Mount Cameroon National Park. Its reforestation teams work directly with farming communities on the mountain's lower slopes, planting fast-growing and fruit trees to stabilize soil and rebuild watersheds. In June 2025 it launched the Mount Cameroon Inga Project with 30 local farmers in three villages, planting 6,000 nitrogen-fixing Inga edulis trees projected to sequester about 132 tonnes of CO2-equivalent over the next decade, and it planted another 1,000 trees that same month for World Desertification Day.
