Green Congo Initiative — Reforesting the Congo Basin

Created in 2019 in Goma, Green Congo Initiative mobilizes young people across North Kivu, South Kivu and Ituri provinces to run tree-planting campaigns in mining-affected and erosion-prone parts of the Congo Basin. Around 80% of planting participants are women, who are paid for their labor, directly linking reforestation to household income. The organization also runs environmental education programs with schools and universities across the region.
