Since 2006, French development NGO Gret has equipped 103 Mauritanian villages with multifunctional solar platforms β€” hubs powering grain mills, freezers, phone-charging and welding services that are unaffordable for individual households but too small a market for a mini-grid. Its flagship Erudi project (2011-2015), delivered with Mauritanian NGOs Tenmiya and Ecodev, brought this model to roughly 70,000 inhabitants across four regions. Gret's ongoing Mauritania program has since added more than 50 rural drinking-water facilities and helped a dozen municipalities draft their own water and sanitation plans.
