Grumeti Fund: Restoring the Western Serengeti Savanna

Grumeti Fund manages roughly 350,000 acres of the western Serengeti ecosystem, a critical corridor for the annual wildebeest migration that was degraded by rampant snaring, wildfire and invasive vegetation before the Fund took over management in 2003. In 2025 alone its rangers ran over 2,000 anti-poaching patrols, removed more than 1,000 snares, cleared invasive alien plants from over 4,500 hectares of savanna and managed fire across 168,000 acres of grassland. The Fund also runs community programs reaching dozens of villages, including teaching fellowships and scholarships, to link savanna restoration to local livelihoods.
