HELPS International ONIL Stove Program

HELPS International, a US nonprofit that has worked in Guatemala for over 25 years, developed the ONIL stove, a locally manufactured masonry cookstove with a chimney and ceramic-lined combustion chamber that vents smoke outside the home. Peer-reviewed field studies measured indoor carbon monoxide levels in ONIL-stove homes at only a small fraction of those in homes cooking over open fires. HELPS reports more than 300,000 ONIL stoves installed, giving over 2 million people smoke-free cooking environments.
