Regreening Morocco's Oases, One Nursery at a Time

Working with rural communities, government agencies including the National Agency for the Development of Oasis Zones (ANDZOA), and hundreds of women's cooperatives, the High Atlas Foundation manages organic fruit-tree nurseries across Morocco's mountain and oasis provinces. Farmers grow almond, argan, carob, fig, pomegranate and walnut saplings that are planted out to reclaim eroded, drought-hit land and diversify incomes in oasis and pre-Saharan communities. Since its work began, HAF has planted roughly 3.5 million fruit trees, including 2 million since 2014, across 23 provinces.
