Hnutí DUHA's First Citizen-Owned Solar Power Plant

Hnutí DUHA (Friends of the Earth Czech Republic) founded the Czech Republic's first energy cooperative in December 2023 so ordinary citizens could co-own renewable power instead of depending on utilities. In June 2026 the cooperative switched on its first community solar plant, a 50 kWp rooftop array on an organic farm in Velké Hostěrádky, expected to cover roughly 30% of participating members' annual electricity needs at a fixed, low price. The cooperative has grown to 239 members nationwide and is now scoping a second project to bring solar power to social housing for refugees and low-income families as part of its work on energy poverty.
