Launched in 2016 by Akwesasne Mohawk seedkeeper Rowen White, the Indigenous Seed Keepers Network (ISKN) now connects more than 100 tribal seed-sovereignty projects across Turtle Island (North America), operating as a program of the Native American Food Sovereignty Alliance. ISKN organizes 'rematriation' ceremonies that return long-lost seed varieties, held in institutional and private collections, to the descendants of the communities that first grew them. It also provides mentorship, microgrants, workshops and policy advocacy to help tribal nations restore ancestral food systems and cultural seed-keeping practices.
