Founded in 1995, ILC channels the work of its member network — including grassroots federations, Indigenous organizations and land-rights NGOs — into shared advocacy, monitoring of land deals, and campaigns such as Stand for Her Land for women's land rights. Members collectively represent over 70 million people who farm, herd or steward land. Between 2019 and 2024, ILC's network reported securing 1.4 million hectares of land and formal tenure rights for 1.2 million people, while contributing to 112 policy changes in favour of people-centred land governance.
