Koalisi Pejalan Kaki

Koalisi Pejalan Kaki was founded in 2011 and grew sharply after the January 2012 Tugu Tani crash in central Jakarta, when a car mounted the pavement and killed eight people standing on it. The coalition now links around 20 local pedestrian organisations across Indonesia, campaigns for footpaths that are continuous, unobstructed and usable by wheelchair users, and declared 22 January — the anniversary of the crash — Indonesia's Walking Day. In 2018 it launched a reporting app for broken and blocked footpaths and became a member of the International Federation of Pedestrians. Much of its work is unglamorous and specific: getting parked motorcycles, street furniture and illegal kiosks off the pavement.
