Operating under Kuwait's Environmental Voluntary Foundation, the Kuwait Dive Team is a corps of volunteer divers founded in 1986 whose defining early mission was salvaging sunken vessels and clearing wartime debris from Kuwaiti waters after the 1991 Gulf War. Today the team designs, installs and maintains mooring buoys across Kuwait's coral reef sites so boaters can anchor without dropping chain onto fragile coral, and it partners with Queensland University researchers to track reef health. In 2025 the team pulled two tons of abandoned fishing nets from Kuwait Bay to free trapped marine life, and by mid-2026 it was maintaining 110 mooring buoys across the country's major reef zones.
