Latvijas Dabas fonds: Restoring Latvia's Wild Grasslands for Rare Birds

Founded in 1990, Latvijas Dabas fonds (Latvian Fund for Nature) is Latvia's most experienced nature conservation NGO, working across forests, farmland, coastlines, bogs and freshwater habitats. Over three decades it has carried out more than 150 conservation projects, including 16 EU LIFE Nature programme projects, securing over EUR 20 million in EU funding for Latvian nature. Its habitat restoration work has recovered more than 5,000 hectares of species-rich grassland, benefiting white-tailed eagles, ospreys, black storks and the globally threatened corncrake. The fund also runs Dabasdati.lv, a citizen-science observation portal that had logged close to a million wildlife sightings within its first decade.
