Founded in 1988 by three local green groups, the Clean Air Action Group has grown into a national federation of more than 60 environmental NGOs backed by an expert board of around 60 specialists. It campaigns on sustainable transport, energy and urban development, and pushes for green tax reform to shift Hungary's economy away from pollution. Its advocacy helped preserve about half of Hungary's local railway branch lines from closure and secured parliamentary approval of green taxes and a distance-based freight fee, while its independent measurements of black carbon and other pollutants regularly feed into national air-quality debates.
