Love The Oceans has worked in Jangamo Bay, Inhambane Province, since 2015, running the only sea turtle nest patrol in the district and partnering with Mozambique's Oceanographic Institute to build the scientific case for the country's first Marine Protected Area. Volunteer and staff researchers have logged over 1,000 research dives, monitor 450 coral colonies annually, and have filmed and analysed more than 5km of reef, while its ocean literacy program has taught over 3,000 children to swim and reached more than 25,000 people through community talks. The Jangamo coastline was named a Mission Blue Hope Spot in 2021 for its Substock C1 humpback whales - nearly 10% of the world's population - and its healthy manta ray aggregations.
