M-KOPA, founded in Nairobi in 2010, sells solar home systems, smartphones and electric motorbikes through a digital micro-financing model that lets customers pay in small daily installments via mobile money. The approach brings electricity, connectivity and transport to households traditionally excluded from formal credit and the grid across Kenya, Uganda, Nigeria, Ghana and South Africa. By September 2025 M-KOPA had served more than 7 million customers and unlocked roughly $2 billion in asset financing.
