Magic Bus: Coaching India's Children Out of Poverty Through Sport

Founded in Mumbai in 1999 by Matthew Spacie, who began by teaching rugby to street children, Magic Bus has grown into one of India's largest sport-for-development organisations, using structured play to teach life skills, gender equality, health and education to adolescents in slum and rural communities. Trained young mentors from the same communities run weekly sport-based sessions combining games with lessons on staying in school, delaying marriage and building livelihoods. The foundation's Childhood-to-Livelihood model has served more than two million vulnerable young people across 24 Indian states and union territories, and its Livelihood Programme now places the large majority of enrolled youth into sustainable jobs.
