Masjid Al-Muharram in Brajan, Tamantirto, Bantul (Yogyakarta) has run an 'Eco-Masjid' programme since 2013, covering tree planting, waste management, rainwater infiltration wells, efficient appliances and inclusion. At the end of 2023 it installed eight rooftop panels, two inverters and batteries producing over 4,800 watts, funded by the 'Sedekah Energi' (energy alms) donation drive. Monthly bills fell from up to Rp400,000 to about Rp40,000, and the mosque is now fully solar-powered. Its 'Sedekah Sampah' waste-almsgiving scheme sells recyclables twice a month and hands the proceeds to residents in need, and organic waste goes to local livestock feed.
