Saving Mauritius' Last Endemic Birds

The Mauritian Wildlife Foundation is the sole NGO in Mauritius focused entirely on saving the country's threatened endemic flora and fauna, running long-term recovery programs for species such as the Mauritius kestrel, pink pigeon and echo parakeet that were once down to a handful of individuals. It manages ecological restoration on offshore islets like Île aux Aigrettes, where invasive predators and plants are removed to let native species recover, and runs a Human-Bat Conflict Working Group to address tension between communities and the endemic Mauritius fruit bat. The Foundation also operates ecotours and a "Tiny Forest" native-tree planting initiative, and works across mainland Mauritius, its outer islets and Rodrigues.
