Micaia Foundation, based in Chimoio, works with rain-fed farming communities in Manica Province to strengthen community-managed seed banks that conserve locally adapted varieties and local knowledge. Farmers use community seed mapping to record which varieties still exist, which have vanished and which matter most for food and culture. According to a July 2026 CDKN report, the project targets 19 communities, with training replicated in 15 by June 2026. In total 340 people were trained, 196 of them women, including 52 community members who became local trainers of trainers.
